Helping Kids KICK Cancer

You may know that cancer is unfortunately among the top leading causes of death in the United States. Among those diagnoses exist nearly 16,000 children of which almost 2,000 will succumb to this deadly disease. Of the children that are diagnosed with cancer every year, it is estimated that about 470 of them are from Michigan.

Dealing with a deadly disease can not only be debilitating to your physical health but to your social and mental health as well. That’s where Kids Kicking Cancer steps in. This amazing organization that began its work in 1999 at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan with only ten children has now expanded its reach globally. They’ve made it their mission to “ease the pain of very sick children while empowering them to heal physically, spiritually and emotionally.” Kids Kicking Cancer does this by “lowering the pain of children through the teaching of martial arts as a therapy. Children learn breathwork, meditation, and traditional karate movements that empower them to teach others and thus gain purpose within their lives. Our young cancer patients teach other children with challenging illnesses and even adults how to breathe in the light and blow out the darkness.”
